The competition is open to teams of final year undergraduate and postgraduate students and post-doctoral researchers and start-up companies less than two years old.

The 2013 UK competition was launched at University College London (UCL) in April and is co-organised by Lancaster University Management School, UCL, the China Innovation and Development Association (CIDA) and Chongqing and Tianjin Association for Science and Technology.

The sponsors include; the University of Durham, the University of East Anglia and the University of East London.
